Concern
No colour in Reading
A little colour, with a session time matched to your skin. Treated at our salon in Caversham, Reading.
What causes it?
If you would like some colour, our tanning lounge has four Ergoline sunbeds in a private setting. Jessica checks your eligibility and relevant health information first, and agrees a session time that follows the equipment's exposure guidance, rather than selling unlimited minutes.
Skin colour comes from melanin, produced by melanocytes in response to ultraviolet light. UVA drives immediate pigment darkening, UVB drives new melanin production over following days, which is why colour continues to develop after a session and why longer sessions are not the answer.
Everyone's skin has a limit to how much it can respond. Going past it does not produce more colour; it produces burning.
Signs to look out for
Most people who come to us about no colour recognise several of these. You do not need all of them, and you do not need to know which treatment you want — that is our job.
- Looking washed out in photographs through winter
- Wanting a little colour before an occasion
- Finding fake tan patchy or the smell unpleasant
How we can help
These are the routes we would talk through at consultation, in the order we would usually consider them. Which one is right depends on your skin, your history and your budget.
Start with a sunbed session
Four Ergoline sunbeds in a private lounge, with a session time matched to your skin and the equipment's guidance.
Buy a block of minutes
Our reception team will explain the current package choices, total cost and expiry terms before you buy.
Ask about memberships
If you tan regularly, ask about the current memberships, what is included and how renewal and cancellation work.
Not sure which of these is you?
You do not have to decide before you come in. Bring the problem and we will talk you through what could help and what it costs. The consultation is free and there is no obligation to book anything.
What to expect over time
A realistic guide, including the stretch in the middle where it may not look like much is happening. Everyone responds differently, so your practitioner will talk you through your own timeline.
Session 1
Short. Colour develops over the following twenty-four to forty-eight hours, so judge it the next day, not on the way out.
Following sessions
Spaced at least forty-eight hours apart. Consecutive days do not work and risk burning.
Ongoing
Jessica will advise a sensible routine for your skin and the equipment's guidance.
Good to know
UV tanning increases the risk of skin cancer, premature skin ageing and eye damage. A tan is not sun protection, and avoiding a burn does not remove these risks. Sunbeds should not be used to prepare your skin for a holiday or to get vitamin D. Sunbeds are not available to anyone under 18, and we check eligibility and relevant health information before your first session.
Treatments that can help
Listed strongest match first. All of them are done at our salon on 3 Prospect Street in Caversham, Reading.
Common questions
How long should my first session be?
Short, and set by your skin type and the equipment's guidance. We check before your first visit.
How often can I tan?
Never on consecutive days. Forty-eight hours minimum between sessions.
Can I use my own lotion?
Products designed for sunbed use, yes. Outdoor sunscreen is formulated for a different purpose.
Is a tan protection from the sun?
No. A tan is not sun protection and does not replace SPF.
Other concerns we treat
