What causes it?
A soft jawline has three possible causes and they are treated completely differently: a recessed chin that never projected far enough, submental fat sitting under the chin, or skin and tissue that has descended with age. Most people have some combination. Reading the profile properly, not just the front view, is what determines whether the answer is structural filler, fat reduction, tightening, or a staged combination of them.
Chin projection is skeletal and set genetically; a chin that sits behind the line of the lower lip in profile will read as a weak jaw regardless of weight. Separately, a discrete pad of fat sits under the chin and is notoriously resistant to diet, particularly if it runs in your family.
Then there is age. The jaw bone itself resorbs, the ligaments slacken, and cheek fat descends to sit as a jowl on either side of the chin, breaking the clean line.
Signs to look out for

What to expect over time
A realistic guide, including the stretch in the middle where it may not look like much is happening. Everyone responds differently, so your practitioner will talk you through your own timeline.
Same day
Filler results are immediate but swollen. Fat dissolving swells considerably for several days — plan for it.
Week 1
Fat dissolving is at its most swollen and tender. This is normal and it is the part nobody shows online.
Week 4 to 6
Fat reduction visible. A second session is planned from here.
Month 3
Combination results settle. Profile photographs are the honest measure — front-on hides most of what changed.
Good to know
Fat dissolving under the chin swells dramatically for about a week. If nobody has warned you about that, they have not prepared you properly. It also is not a weight-loss treatment. It works on a discrete pocket, not on generalised fullness, and it will disappoint if the real issue is overall weight or loose skin. Where the skin has lost significant elasticity, removing the fat can leave it looser, and we would tighten first or instead.

Common questions
Will chin filler make my face look bigger?
Projection lengthens and defines rather than widens. Done correctly it makes a face look slimmer in profile.
How many fat-dissolving sessions?
It varies with the product and how you respond. Amber will explain this at your consultation. We assess after two.
Is the result permanent?
Fat cells destroyed do not return, though remaining cells can enlarge with weight gain. Filler lasts twelve to eighteen months here.
Can I combine treatments?
Usually yes, and often the plan is sequential: reduce, then define, then tighten. We map it at consultation.
